My father asked me to review an investment opportunity when I was a junior in high school. I was honored that he wanted my input; I was just a teenager! As I looked over the opportunity, I was quickly intrigued by the financial world. This fascination, coupled with my enthusiasm for math, led me to focus my college studies on business with an emphasis in finance.
After college, I worked for seven years at two different financial firms. During this time, I dreamed of starting a more client-focused company—one that would integrate my love for finances with my love for people. Then, in 1990, that dream was realized. Here at IFS, I can help clients gain peace and freedom to pursue their dreams and goals.
As a business owner, I intimately understand the importance of making wise financial decisions, and over the years, I have walked with many people from a place of stress into a calmer, more focused future. I realize how difficult it can be to reveal your personal financial situation to others, and I am privileged to be invited into this place of trust.
My wife, Cheryl, and I live in Lake Oswego and have three grown children and one granddaughter. I enjoy hanging out with my family, golfing, and watching football and basketball. I have also coached youth basketball teams for a number of years. I’m an avid runner, and I have participated in two Hood to Coast Relays and completed two Portland Marathons.

My parents taught me early on about being responsible with money, particularly not “spending your money before you’ve earned it.” At that time, finances were scarce for my family, but my parents managed their resources well and taught us how to share what we had with others—even if it was a small amount. When I was in junior high, my dad’s job changed, along with our economic situation, but I watched them continue to live out the same principles.
I’ve learned that not everyone shares this same philosophy. Delaying gratification is difficult, but so is the stress that comes with poor financial choices. I enjoy being part of a business that helps navigate the stresses of economic situations and brings hope and strategy to our clients’ lives.
In addition to handling administrative responsibilities at IFS, I often work as our team’s in-house interior design consultant. I am passionate about creativity and excellence, and it’s my hope that everyone feels comfortable and at home when they walk through the doors of IFS.
I love spending time with our children and granddaughter, and I also enjoy doing a variety of volunteer work. I treasure reading and making cards to give to friends and family, and I welcome any opportunity to meet with friends over a great cup of tea.

I believe that true wealth is the sum of time, relationships, and money. That’s why I joined IFS in 2018. I’m able to help clients navigate financial decisions and bring peace to areas of their life they feel stressed about.
I graduated from college in 2010—the middle of the Great Recession—and witnessed friends and family struggling as they lost their jobs and homes. After college, I moved back home to North Idaho, but unfortunately, the recession had decimated the job market in that area. A friend and I then bought a camper trailer and moved to Minot, ND, to help rebuild homes that were destroyed in a devastating flood. After a couple of years braving temperatures as cold as 40 degrees below zero, I moved to Portland and opened an insurance agency with the goal of protecting families from financial disaster.
I enjoyed meeting regularly with clients to help manage risks and protect their dreams. During that time, I specialized in life insurance and had the bittersweet experience of delivering two life insurance benefit checks to families. Through all of this, I learned about the tremendous benefits and peace of mind that come from proper financial planning.
In 2016, I married my beautiful wife, Chelsey. She is a photographer and full-time mom to our daughter, Sophia, who joined our family in 2018. My wife and I enjoy refinishing furniture, wine tasting, and line dancing.

My family went through many financial struggles and hardships while I was growing up. I learned the importance of working hard while also being kind and generous; sometimes you need assistance, and sometimes you are able to assist someone else. My family experienced this firsthand, from bags of groceries left on our porch, to the gift of a car, to major house repairs. The compassion of others helped us through some very rough seasons.
On my own, I made some poor financial decisions and incurred a lot of consumer debt. I’ve experienced and seen how unhealthy financial choices lead to greater stress, depression, pain, and missed opportunities with those you love. I realized that being wise and intentional with money can lead to greater resources for living a healthier, fuller, and more giving life.
I’ve experienced so much generosity from others. I’ve also seen how much misinformation and manipulation exists in the financial world, and how crushing that can be. Now, it’s my joy to help others find strength and hope by understanding their finances and following a plan that rewards their hearts and lives.
My life perspective has been shaped by local and global charitable service, including travels to the Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Kenya. My wife, Jen, and I live in Portland with our four children. I enjoy family time, baking, watching sports, and biking. I also love bonding with kids, family members, and close friends through team sports and outdoor adventures.

Growing up with a dad who was a financial advisor, I had a front row seat to financial planning. I loved the intricacies and research opportunities the industry provided, along with how, when done with integrity, it can produce incredible strength and hope to people’s lives. From my earliest memories, I have always enjoyed learning and tackling complex problems, particularly when my efforts can ease the burdens for someone else.
Through the years, I have been pleasantly surprised with how my natural passions have allowed me to thrive in this field. My experience has spanned various industries, including banking, real estate development, and the nonprofit sector. I’ve witnessed how inadequate planning and lack of understanding can cause tremendous stress and devastating consequences. Yet I’ve also seen how wise, caring money-management can benefit individuals, families, and communities for generations.
I was delighted to join the IFS team in 2021 because our commitment to authenticity and excellence uniquely positions us to provide solid, life-giving solutions for our clients. It is my honor to support the IFS team and our clients as we bring clarity and peace to a topic that is deeply personal and can often feel overwhelming.
My husband, Matt, and I have one adorable daughter. I’m an active leader of two local nonprofits, and I’m an avid reader. In my off time, I love being with my family, working with animals, spending time outside in my garden, and exploring the Oregon Coast.
